The Hamburg State Opera is among Europe’s leading opera houses. Founded in 1678 as Germany’s first civic opera, it has been a venue for pioneering music theatre, a stage for spectacular world premieres, and a driving force of artistic innovation far beyond Hamburg for nearly 350 years.

Under the artistic direction of Tobias Kratzer and General Music Director Omer Meir Wellber, the Hamburg State Opera stands for artistic curiosity and a diverse programme. “Every evening is a premiere” is not just a motto, but the expression of an expanded concept of repertoire: the first season features nine new productions – six on the Main Stage and three in the opera stabile – which explore the boundaries of music theatre through unusual combinations of subject matter and fresh perspectives.
