Deep inside the building is the heart of the Elbphilharmonie: the large concert hall seats approx. 2100 guests.
The audience levels are arranged around the podium like wine terraces. The orchestra and conductor are located in the middle of the hall, the tiers are interwoven and form a steep auditorium that offers all visitors excellent viewing and listening conditions. The effect of the Grand Hall is reminiscent of a mixture of the Berlin Philharmonic and Milan's Scala. The reflector on the pointed ceiling is also architecturally impressive. It provides the outstanding acoustics and at the same time houses part of the lighting and stage technology. The acoustic concept was developed by one of the world's best acousticians, Yasuhisa Toyota, and metrologically tested using a detailed 1:10 scale hall model.
