Udoversum

The major Udo Lindenberg exhibition

To mark the 80th birthday of German music icon Udo Lindenberg, a comprehensive exhibition is opening in Hamburg to celebrate the artist’s extraordinary life and work. At the UDOVERSUM, visitors can immerse themselves in the world of Udo Lindenberg through previously unseen exhibits, famous ‘Likörellen’ and an audio tour exploring his music, art and performances.

From May 2026, Stilwerk Hamburg will bring Udo Lindenberg’s world to life in all its facets – as a musician, painter, rebel and icon. As one of the most influential figures in German culture, the artist’s career spans over six decades of German music history.

How did Udo Lindenberg’s meteoric career begin?

Born in 1946 in Gronau, Westphalia, Lindenberg’s journey began with a keen sense of rhythm and a dream of life at sea. Instead of sailing the world’s oceans as a steward, he became a drummer, later a singer – and ultimately the artist who first made German-language rock music accessible to the masses. With “Alles klar auf der Andrea Doria” in 1973, he achieved his breakthrough and launched a career that produced countless hits, characters and stories.

Udo Lindenberg’s close connection to Hamburg

Hamburg soon became his adopted home – the legendary ‘Panikzentrale’. It was here that songs, characters and myths were born. And it was here, between the Alster, the Reeperbahn and the Hotel Atlantic, that Lindenberg developed his unmistakable style: with a hat, sunglasses and a language that has long since become part of the cultural memory.

What awaits you at the Udoversum in Hamburg

The UDOVERSUM invites you to rediscover the world of Udo Lindenberg. On display are previously unseen exhibits such as stage outfits, instruments, handwritten song lyrics, photographs and personal mementos. A particular focus is on Lindenberg’s visual art: his famous ‘Likörelle’ – works painted with liqueur – sketchbooks and other pieces from his studio offer fascinating insights into his creative process. A newly produced audio guide accompanies visitors through the exhibition, combining music, painting and performance. In doing so, the UDOVERSUM tells not only of successes, but also of setbacks, new beginnings and the unmistakable legend that is Udo Lindenberg.
