International Maritime Museum

Kaispeicher B in Hamburg's Speicherstadt is home to the world's largest private collection of maritime treasures from 3000 years of shipping and naval history.

In the historic Kaispeicher B, nestled within Hamburg’s UNESCO World Heritage Speicherstadt district, a true treasure lies hidden: the International Maritime Museum Hamburg. Stepping inside is the start of a captivating journey through 3,000 years of maritime history – impressive, richly detailed, and unique in its diversity.

Spread over ten floors, the private collection of Peter Tamm Senior showcases the full fascination of seafaring: from intricately crafted ship models and antique nautical instruments to historic uniforms and marine art. More than 11,000 square metres of exhibition space invite visitors to rediscover maritime history – from the earliest rafts to the modern era of deep-sea shipping. The atmosphere of the old warehouse, with its brick walls and heavy timber ceilings, turns a museum visit into a truly immersive experience where history comes alive.

Did you know?

The International Maritime Museum Hamburg is part of the largest historical warehouse complex in the world – the Speicherstadt – and the museum café, “Catch of the Day”, offers a special view of the city’s maritime heritage.

Ideal for ...

Whether young captains or avid maritime enthusiasts – families can discover highlights here such as the LEGO model of the Queen Mary 2, deep-sea exhibits, or the skull of Klaus Störtebeker. Many areas are interactive and designed with children in mind, and regular family tours like the treasure hunt with Captain Kuddel take place. Creative activities add even more variety – all right in the heart of Hamburg’s UNESCO World Heritage Speicherstadt. The International Maritime Museum Hamburg offers regular and bookable guided tours in English, including a free public tour every first Tuesday of the month.
