Since its opening on January 11, 2017, The Elbphilharmonie has become the new emblem of Hamburg. Located on the eastern tip of the HafenCity, the modern glass structure with its striking undulating roof seemingly floats above the historic Kaispeicher. Like a lighthouse, the Elbphilharmonie greets incoming ships and signals from afar, "You have arrived."

A little overshadowed by the Elbphilharmonie, but by no means less worth seeing: St. Michael's Church, better known as the Michel. The "Church of the Poor" has been one of Hamburg's landmarks for centuries. The Michel is one of the most beautiful baroque churches in northern Germany and impresses with its magnificent interior. An ascent to the top of its tower is worthwhile: from here you have the best view of the harbour, the Elbphilharmonie and the Alster.

Here, you can see the cosmopolitan city of Hamburg in miniature. Where? In the Miniatur Wunderland in the Speicherstadt. In addition to miniature cities, numerous railways rush through the area next to, above and below. Right next door is the AIDA in the ports of Scandinavia. On the ground floor, after many years of construction, the largest section to date of "Bella Italia" has opened. Behind the scenes, fabulous new worlds are being constructed. The government of Germany's second largest city meets in this imposing sandstone building in the heart of Hamburg. Not only the elaborate outer facade of the building is impressive. To gain insights on the inside, you can take part in an exclusive guided tour through the rooms and meeting rooms.

As the name suggests, the Landungsbrücken are Hamburg's most famous water station. From here you can start one of the numerous harbour tours, eat one of the popular fish sandwiches or just relax with a coffee or ice cream and enjoy the view of Hamburg harbour and the big ships. This impressive complex of warehouses was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2015 together with the Kontorhaus district. As if that weren't enough, there are numerous cafés, restaurants and museums in the immediate vicinity. On a harbour and canal cruise with one of the many barge ships you can see the Speicherstadt from a completely different perspective and experience it up close!

Hamburg's popular shopping street and promenade directly on the Binnenalster. Here you can stroll to your heart's content, eat ice cream, drink coffee or set out on an Alster tour. If you really want to spend a lot of money, visit the Alsterhaus with its chic boutiques and noble luxury manufacturers. But even without a lot of money, you can enjoy yourself just fine!

Germany's only private zoo attracts millions of enthusiastic visitors every year. In addition to leopards, fur seals and the like, elephants, lions, tigers and the beloved monkeys can also be seen here. Opened in 2012, the Arctic Ocean is not only a technical masterpiece but also a real eye-catcher and a very special highlight. Here polar bears live close to penguins and walruses without really getting too close to each other. That can be found nowhere else!

Sure, everyone knows the Kiez? Famous and infamous all over the world, you can celebrate endlessly here. There's always something going happening on the Reeperbahn. If you're a prude, you're definitely in the wrong corner of Hamburg. The best nightclubs line up here next to the most famous bars and pubs as well as some theatres and playhouses. The Hamburg fish market is known everywhere. Even tourists from Japan, almost 9,000 km away, flock to Hamburg for a visit to the fish market. Every Sunday starting at sunrise, you can get fresh fish, vegetables and other delicious specialities. But don't get up too late, because the spectacle is over by 9:30 a.m. at the latest.
