Breakfast at the Fischmarkt - from €2.00

In Hamburg, there's a long tradition of partying in the Kiez on Saturday evening and dancing into the early morning hours - until the Fischmarkt opens its portals (Große Elbstraße 9, with the U3 to the Landungsbrücken, S1 and S3 to the Reeperbahn stop, or with bus 112 to the Fischmarkt stop). From April to October as of 5:00 a.m. and from November to March as of 7:00 a.m. Until 9:30 a.m., you can try all kinds of sweet or hearty foods on Sundays. If you crave a Bismarck roll in the early morning, you'll be just as lucky here as those who would prefer a warm Franzbrötchen. If you want to stay longer for a long, drawn-out brunch, you can also do this for €19.50 (reservations recommended). 

Old Elbe Tunnel & Elphi Plaza - free

Have you always dreamed of walking underneath a river? You can do this any time in Hamburg. The listed Old Elbe Tunnel (St. Pauli-Landungsbrücken 5, 20359 Hamburg) runs for 426 metres below the Elbe and can be used as a public thoroughfare by pedestrians and cyclists - for free, of course. But not only the tunnels themselves are an unusual photo motif - from the other side you can see the wonderful city skyline, which is always worth a snapshot. If you'd rather see the city from on high, you should go to the Plaza of the Elbphilharmonie - from where you have a grand view of Hamburg Harbour.

Miniatur Wunderland – Adults €22.00

With meticulous attention and love of detail, the Miniatur Wunderland (Kehrwieder 2-4/Block D, 20457 Hamburg) in the Speicherstadt came into being in 2000. Approximately 1,231 trains, 5,278 buildings, 292,110 figures and 157,000 trees have since been set up on an area of 1,694 square metres in 1,200,000 working hours by over 400 hard-working employees: The world's largest model railway layout, built on a scale of 1:87, currently comprises nine sections, with more planned – one section covering approximately 200 square metres is dedicated to the Hanseatic city. Harbour Round Trips - Adults €19.00 with Hamburg CARD

No matter if you go with a launch, a passenger vessel or a paddle wheel steamer, in Hamburg there are many opportunities to take short (60 minute) or longer (120 minute) harbour round trips. From the water, you get an entirely new view of the city; you also learn more about the history of the harbour. The evening light cruises of Rainer Abicht are especially enjoyable: within one hour, you can have particularly beautiful impressions of the illuminated Speicherstadt and of the illuminated harbour. Strolling over the DOM – €4.00

Three times a year, the Heiligengeistfeld at St. Pauli is transformed into a loud, colourful and adventursome playground for big and small. The Hamburg DOM (Heiligengeistfeld, 20359 Hamburg), the largest public festival in Northern Germany, becomes the home of over 260 carnies and amusement rides and 110 gastronomic offers - over an area of 160,000 square metres. Starting with the Spring DOM (mid-March to mid-April), the Summer DOM (the end of July to the end of August) and the Winter DOM (early November to early December), it seems like you can eat cotton candy, ride carousels and draw lots all year round. Climbing the Michel - €6.00 with Hamburg CARD

During good weather, it's definitely worth it climbing the 452 stairs of Hamburg's main protestant church St. Michaelis - known as 'Michel' in Hamburg (Englische Planke 1, 20459 Hamburg). You'll be rewarded with a fantastic view of the city from a height of 106 metres. For those who are not stair-climbers, the viewing platform can also be reached via the elevator on the 1st floor (there's no way of getting around 52 stairs). Of course, the church is also worth a visit; it has been a Hamburg landmark since 1669, and has been continually renovated since 1983.
