If you follow the course of the Alster on your bike in spring, you will enjoy the greenest forest atmosphere.
From Ohlsdorf, the adventurous path leads to the source of the Alster to the small town of Henstedt-Rhen. Along the way, numerous cafés and restaurants tempt you to take a break. The Mellingburg lock is always a good place to stop. Here you can take a break with an idyllic view. Important: For the approximately 50 kilometer long route, adequate time should be planned. In addition, the signs marking the cycle path are often hidden - so you should definitely have a map with you!
The tour starts in Ohlsdorf, where you can discover the world's largest park cemetery at the very beginning! The first break can be taken at the Poppenbüttler lock, where you can relax briefly by the water. For the first real refreshment, the restaurant Mellingburger Schleuse offers itself, here you can eat homemade cake or North German dishes under thatched roof. Freshly strengthened and with new energy it goes then into the nature reserve Rodenbeker Quellental, old trees and idyllic paths provide an enchanted forest area, as you know it from stories. The path through the nature reserve then leads through the communities of Tangstedt-Rade, Wakendorf II and Henstedt-Rhen. Here you can make another stop at one or the other café or ice cream parlor. In Henstedt Rhen you will also find the Alsterquelle! From there you can cycle to the Statpark Norderstedt and relax a bit in the park. Afterwards, the S-Bahn will bring you back to Hamburg without any complications.
