Temple Ruin in Hamburg
The ruins of a Jewish temple from the 19th century are located in the middle of the Hamburg Neustadt.
In the 19 century, Jews in Hamburg founded the new Israelite Temple Association in order to make Judaism more contemporary and bring it to life. The architect Johann Klees-Wülbern designed the temple in the Neo-Gothic style, which was almost entirely destroyed during the Second World War. Today, the ruins of the synagogue are tucked away behind some small workshops and hardly perceived as a historic building.
