Experience culture. Poetry Slam in Hamburg

Hamburg stands for art and culture through and through. And over the years, poetry slams have gained a firm place in Hamburg's cultural programme. Those who want to see young lyrical talents have the opportunity to do so in Hamburg almost every week. The young poet scene meets here regularly on stage to compete and inspire the audience. And with the "artistic duels", the city even has its own unofficial championship. Here, you'll find an overview of current events and the most frequent venues.

& JULIA - Das Musical

What would happen if Juliet was given a second chance at life and love after Romeo's death? This question is answered by the turbulent musical & JULIA in Hamburg, which heralds the beginning of a fast-paced and colorful comedy in which the 16th century meets pop culture. After Romeo's death, Juliet makes the decision to leave the drama in Verona behind and flee to Paris. Here she encounters new adventures, challenges and is given a second chance to take control of her destiny.

Among the 24 number 1 pop hits that are heard in their original English version in this musical comedy are, for example, Katy Perry's "Roar", Justin Timberlake's "Can't Stop The Feeling" and "Perfect" by P!nk . Experience Julia's captivating story in a completely new dimension - an unforgettable spectacle that you shouldn't miss!

10 Years VisuleX - BACK TO THE MAGIC Camera Obscura and the Art of Analog Photography

To mark the 10th anniversary of VisuleX – Gallery for Photography, the exhibition BACK TO THE MAGIC invites you on a journey to the origins of photographic vision. From June 6 to June 27, 2025, four international artists will present their contemporary interpretations of the Camera Obscura, one of the oldest image-making techniques in the world – poetic, analog, and contemplative.

The exhibition features works by Maciej Markowicz, Thomas Kellner, Michael Nischke, and Marcus Schwier, each of whom is dedicated to analog image creation with the Pinhole-Camera in their own unique way. Their works oscillate between motion and stillness, fragmentation and contemplation, exploring the relationship between people, space, and time.

"Who would believe that so small a space could contain the image of all the universe?"

— Leonardo da Vinci on the Camera Obscura

At the opening on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at 7:00 PM, art and photography historian Ulrich Rüter, chairman of the Friends of Photography, will give the opening speech. Artists Maciej Markowicz and Michael Nischke will be present.

23. Harburger Binnenhafenfest - Leinen Los

CAST OFF! The 23rd Harburg Inland Harbor Festival will take place from Friday, June 13, at 6 p.m. to Sunday, June 15, at 6 p.m. around Kanalplatz and Lotsekai. Visitors can look forward to a maritime family festival with ships, live music, culinary delights, and hands-on activities.

https://harburger-hafenfest.de

There's plenty to discover on the water: museum ships, customs and police patrol boats, the eco-sailing ship "Avontuur," and the rescue ship "Sea Eye 1." The SAUGER IV will impressively demonstrate its engines. Ten ships—including the besanewer "Johanna," the pilot transfer ship "Marxen," and a "Börte" boat—offer free harbor tours. New: a SUP regatta with island residents, a pedal boat race between the TU Harburg and Grün-Weiß Harburg, and diving demonstrations by the DLRG (German Lifeboat Association). On Saturday, a grand arrival parade of all the ships will begin at 1 p.m., with music and information.

The music program begins Friday evening with "Kissin' Time – Kiss Tribute" and "Purple – Deep Purple Tribute." Over 30 acts will perform on Saturday and Sunday, including Frollein Motte, Nordward Ho, Lasko, Celtic Cowboys, Appletown Washboard Worms, Makatumbe, Soltoros, Betty Ford Houseband, Jan Schröder, Werner Pfeifer & die Hafenbande, Manja & Maria, Guido Plüschke, Die Tüdelband, Pat Fritz, Babanda, and the Kekso and Tery Kafo Band. The Kulturpalast Hip Hop Academy brings musicians and dancers to the "Ei Stage." There will also be a Poetomat and a poetry performance.

On Saturday evening, the program on the small stages ends at 6 p.m., while the big stage at Kanalplatz continues until midnight. DJs from St. Pauli will be playing at the "Chill Out Rave" at Lotsekai from 7 p.m. to midnight.

Culinary options at the festival range from grilled sausages to crepes, beer stands, a brewery bar, and the "Fast Food From... To." The Harburg Fish Market serves cocktails, coffee, and cakes, and some museum ships also offer homemade baked goods. Numerous clubs offer additional food.

The family program is organized by numerous clubs: HTB (Higher Education Center) with sports and games, the History Workshop with historical games, and Kaliope with crafts, painting, and a campfire. There's a telescopic crane course and a Scout yurt. The Culture Workshop hosts the popular stamp regatta, a book flea market, and a café.

The festival is easily accessible: on foot, by bus and train, or by bike. A large bicycle parking area is located opposite the main entrance.

48h Wilhelmsburg

Here we go again - 48h Wilhelmsburg starts for the 15th time - this year from June 7th - 9th, 2024.

48h Wilhelmsburg has been presenting the musical diversity of Hamburg's Elbe Islands for 15 years: musicians of all cultures, genres, levels of professionalism and age play in everyday places for their immediate neighborhood. We move from the Veddel, over the Reiherstiegviertel, to Kirchdorf-Süd. There is a huge range of music to discover on four walks, three waterways and two bike tours. Whether it's cycling across the island and rocking between massive concrete structures and tranquil gardens to psych rock, hip hop and gypsy swing, or paddling on the water to listen to the diverse musical sounds. Live music can be experienced outdoors at six larger concert locations.
