The Wietzer Ölberg, a mining dump, was heaped up between 1932 and 1963 and more or less left to its own devices after the nearby mine was closed. The "wild forest", which has developed on the fallow dump and in the area, stands in clear contrast to the pine forests planted on the dunes in the area.
Alluvial forests on Wietze and Aller show another characteristic forest image and offer a habitat for rare birds such as the kingfisher. Invasive plants such as the late blooming bird cherry threaten the natural vegetation community of our native landscape.
Experience the charm of this landscape on this hike, which was transformed on the one hand by human activity, but on the other hand has retained its originality.
Think of sturdy shoes, weather-appropriate clothing and personal provisions (there is no possibility to stop for a bite to eat).
The tour partly leads over unpaved paths, sure-footedness and a medium level of fitness are recommended.
