Special exhibition. The artist Gudrun Becker, who has lived in Wedel since 1974, was born in Wilhelmshaven in 1934 and received her artistic training from 1954 to 1958 in Hamburg under Willem Grimm, Kurt Kranz, Werner Haftmann and Otto Stelzer, among others. After attending the Academy of Fine Arts, she studied textile design at the Master School for Fashion and worked for 13 years as an art teacher at a high school. Her interest in history, historical contexts, home and nature, but also in completely unspectacular topics from everyday life, is reflected in the works selected for the exhibition. One focus is on maritime motifs, as Becker sailed with her husband for many decades and artistically observed the sea, the Elbe, but above all the ports with their shipyards, boathouses and warehouses. Enthusiastic about a motif such as shipyards in Glückstadt, a cutter in Eckernförde from which smoked fish is sold, or sea marks in the Schulau sailing harbor, she approaches the object from different angles, times of day and year, and thus allows the perceived to emerge in a new facet with changing artistic techniques and image sections.
