FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HAMBURG: THE HEIR AND INNOVATOR OF WEST AFRICAN BLUES.
What do you do when your father was one of the 20th century’s most iconic guitarists, bringing the blues back to its West African roots? You make a name for yourself like Vieux Farka Touré. Blending styles from rock to reggae across eight acclaimed studio albums, his style has always been grounded in the hypnotic West African blues known as "desert blues." His musical journey began with his 2006 debut, which poignantly included his father Ali Farka Touré’s final recordings. Vieux’s recent albums deepen that legacy: “Les Racines” (The Roots) — hailed as “outstanding” by The Guardian — brings together top Malian musicians, while “Ali”, a stunning collaboration with Texas-based psych-rock band Khruangbin, pays tribute to his father’s enduring spirit. Much like Fela Kuti’s son Seun, Vieux preserves his heritage by reimagining it. Now, he brings his unique sound to Hamburg for the very first time.
