Under the theme “Turn the Crank! Mechanical Marvels,” everything revolves around hand-powered technology and the astonishing efficiency of historical everyday devices. At the center of the event are numerous mechanical kitchen and work appliances that operate entirely without electricity. Among those presented and demonstrated are coffee grinders, butter churns, apple peelers and potato machines, meat grinders, juicers, grain, almond, and poppy seed mills, as well as a chaff cutter. Visitors can experience how work was once done using muscle power, cranks, and gearing—and in many cases try it out for themselves.
The program is complemented by vividly presented traditional crafts throughout the village. In the blacksmith’s forge, ropewalk, saddlery, turning shop, and mill, cranking and manual work are likewise on display, creating a vivid picture of historical working environments.
Children are well catered for too: pirate-themed games invite them to join in, explore, and play. Refreshments are provided by the coffee room, grill stands, and tavern. The museum village looks forward to welcoming visitors for an eventful day for the whole family.
