On 6 August, the Japanese city of Hiroshima and the world commemorate the victims of the atomic bombing of 1945. It is a day of remembrance, warning and a call for peace and nuclear disarmament. In Hiroshima, a memorial service will be held in Peace Park, where, among other things, a peace bell will be rung and a minute's silence will be observed.
At the central site commemorating the victims of the Hamburg fire storm, the St. Nikolai Memorial expresses its sympathy and solidarity. In a world of ongoing wars, it also commemorates the universal significance and necessity of peace on this special day with a concert and reading.
The event takes place in the public square of the memorial.
