Byron Katie discovered that she suffered when she believed her thoughts and that she didn't suffer when she didn't believe them. The cause of her depression at the time wasn't the world around her, but her beliefs and programs about the world around her. In a flash of insight, she realized that in our search for happiness, we often head in the wrong direction.
Instead of embarking on the hopeless endeavor of trying to change the world to fit our own preconceived notions of how it "should" be, we can question these notions, and by encountering reality as it is, we experience unimaginable freedom and joy. As a result, a bedridden, suicidal woman was filled with love for all that life brings.
This evening can only be an introduction to the topic. It is a wonderful method that can lead everyone to greater independence.
