On this city tour we will experience the UNESCO World Heritage Site Kontorhaus District with the famous Chilehaus and the equally outstanding Sprinkenhof, as well as the traditional warehouses on the water.
In the old town, on the site of the former alleyways, office buildings were constructed for the burgeoning port city, providing office space for the expanding trade. Along the way, we will visit some of the distinctive staircases.
In the Speicherstadt, a different world awaits us: unique warehouses, canals, bridges, loading hatches, and castle-like facades. Goods from all over the world were stored here: spices,
Pepper, tobacco, cocoa beans, coffee and much more. We also see the Maritime Museum, the magnificent HHLA administration building, the moated castle, and carpet dealers who still use the warehouses as storage rooms today.
We will walk through two outstanding urban districts that illustrate the dynamic development of the merchant city of Hamburg. Finally, we will give a brief overview of HafenCity, which extends the city center right up to the Elbe River.
