The Idea: Give the Children Command!

For five days during the long Ascension Day weekend, a model city will be created at the youth campsite Wittenborn, inhabited and "self-managed" by young people aged 10-14. The children and adolescents will have the opportunity to learn about many things that will play a role in their future lives in a playful manner, as they

  • live together in their (tent) city during the project period,
  • pursue different professions,
  • earn their own money and spend it in their city's facilities
  • pay "taxes,"
  • elect their own government and
  • support and use various cultural and social projects.

With our project, we primarily pursue the following goals:

  1. An initial introduction to the world of work and professions
  2. Experiencing how a community is organized
  3. Strengthening social cohesion / integration and migration
  4. Enhancing the voluntary commitment of young people and adults
  5. Promoting understanding of politics

"City of Children", the democracy project in the Segeberg district,
will take place next from May 13 to May 17, 2026 at the Youth Campsite Wittenborn.

  • 04551/3464 (Youth Council Segeberg e. V., Office hours: Mon 10-2 PM, Tue 2-6 PM, Wed 8 AM-12 PM, Thu 1-5 PM)  SdK@kjr-se.de

Are you between 10 and 14 years old and live in the Segeberg district? Do you want to try something new and design a city together with more than 100 children, with everything that goes along with it? Can you imagine working in Parliament and maybe even becoming the mayor of this city? Then join us!

Dear children!
In the City of Children, you are the politicians, city improvers, and working population! Jobs await you where you can try everything possible and create amazing things for the market. A daily television show and a magazine will also be created by you. For your work, you will receive "Kauris" – that is the money we use. You will pay on the marketplace with that.
You could also serve as tent representatives in Parliament to discuss proposals. And of course, anyone can drop a proposal in the PaBriKa (Parliament Mailbox) to improve our city or share personal wishes. In POGOs (POGO stands for Politically Organizing Together), proposals on children's rights, sustainability, and personal ideas can be processed, and events can be prepared. In the city hour, everyone will jointly decide which proposals are accepted and then implemented. And one of you can become the mayor!
For your free time, we will prepare some highlights together with you. Every morning we will wake up to music!

Dear Parents!
The children must be from the Segeberg district and between 10 and 14 years old.
We would like to point out that pictures of the participating children will be published as part of this project – on the homepage stadtderkindersegeberg.de, in social media, and local press. This includes the evening news broadcast and the magazine "KinderZEITung," both created by the children themselves. Parental consent is required for the transfer of image rights.

Starting from January 1, 2026, at 12 PM registrations via the portal feripro will be possible: Info and registration for City of Children 2026
The registration period ends on February 28, 2026. Should the number of registrations exceed the available 120 places, a lottery will determine the allocation.
After confirming the registration, parents will receive further documents.

The registration of children will take place via a lottery process.

All those aged 10-14 who reside in the Segeberg district may participate! The registration period is from January 1 to February 28, 2026.

The participant fee is 110€ per child for the SDK. Discounts may be possible on a case-by-case basis, and the KJR Segeberg is recognized for the education card.
