»I much prefer to take a spontaneous approach and announce the pieces just before I play them. It gives me a better connection to the audience. After all, everyone is at the concert to enjoy some music together.« András Schiff loves to communicate with his listeners when playing a piano recital. »Anyone who has heard of me naturally expects me to play some Bach, Mozart or Beethoven,« he adds with a twinkle in his eye. And of course we have heard of him. We know he rose to fame as a pianist and that he is a respected conductor, festival organiser and political intellectual who often openly criticises the restrictive regime in his home country of Hungary. He now carries the title of »Sir András Schiff« after receiving British citizenship in 2001 and a knighthood in 2014. We are thrilled to welcome him to Hamburg to share his knowledge, experience and joy of music with us.
