Faith - hope - love, these three famous terms from the Bible, they characterise Pēteris Vasks, the globally acclaimed composer from Latvia. Faith: clearly very important to him. Hope: never give up! But the most important thing for him: love! And so he writes modern classical music that goes straight to the heart. And yet his artistic credo is: music must never be »sweet«!
Vasks, who will be 80 years old next year, loves silence: »Because everything comes from it and ends in it«. And so the silence after the last note is endless: the RIX Piano Quartet, a world-renowned ensemble whose string players are already familiar from Gidon Kremer’s famous Kremerata, is coming to Hamburg. In their luggage: the third piano quartet by Johannes Brahms – a reference to Hamburg and its audience. And Pēteris Vasks, the master himself, will be joining them for a preliminary artistic discussion. A very special evening with a very special composer!
