QUEERHISTORYMONTH
QueerHistoryMonth will take place in Hamburg from May 1st to 31st, 2026 (www.queerhistoryhamburg.de). Various events within the festival will bring the history (and stories) of the queer community in Hamburg to life. Everyone is welcome – Kings, Quings, Queens, Allies, Friends, (chosen) Families, and everyone in between and beyond!
Event
A walking tour through Hamburg: courageous women loved women, lived in hiding, and fought in the public eye. Discover stories of love, resistance, emancipation, and self-assertion.
Women who loved women have often lived in obscurity throughout history – and yet they have always been there. On this city tour, we encounter courageous, creative, and unwavering women who moved beyond societal norms:
Women who earned their living in men's clothing and were even married to other women.
Women who, as wealthy heiresses, founded Hamburg's first women's center.
Women who made a statement in the courtroom wearing political T-shirts.
At various locations throughout the city, we tell their stories – stories of emancipation, love, resistance, and self-assertion. The tour offers fascinating insights into a largely suppressed chapter of lesbian history in Hamburg.
You will be accompanied by Reingard Wagner and Karin Schönewolf, who will guide you through the walk with a wealth of knowledge, empathy and passion.
