QUEERHISTORYMONTH
QueerHistoryMonth will take place in Hamburg from May 1st to 31st, 2026 (www.queerhistoryhamburg.de). Various events within the festival will bring the history (and stories) of the queer community in Hamburg to life. Everyone is welcome – Kings, Quings, Queens, Allies, Friends, (chosen) Families, and everyone in between and beyond!
Event
Queer Storytelling Café: Discovering memories, stories, and treasures together. Over coffee and cake, vibrant local history emerges from personal experiences and encounters.
This year, too, we invite you to join us for a relaxed Sunday afternoon with coffee and cake to talk about queer history connected to Hamburg and to us as its inhabitants.
Which queer pioneers worked here? Which alliances were forged? What surprising stories of love, friendship, or resistance still slumber in your memories? In the storytelling café, we collect personal stories and memories – creating an oral queer history of the city, told by those who experienced it firsthand.
In our spontaneous collective library, you can browse through books, magazines, photo albums, and journals brought by others – or discover little treasures from past queer decades. We especially welcome books, photos, and objects brought by visitors (preferably from the 1970s and 1980s) – along with their stories, they are our VIP guests.
Drinks and cake will be provided – cake donations are very welcome! Anyone who would like to help or get involved can contact the organizing team in advance: geschichtswerkstatt@gitteschmitz.de
The queer history workshop is coordinated by Simon Schultz and thrives on the voluntary commitment of all involved. Thank you to everyone who makes this space possible!
