With his program »Chopin Plus,« internationally acclaimed pianist Pietro Massa invites Hamburg audiences on a musical journey that ranges from poetic intimacy to virtuosic expressiveness. The first half focuses on Frédéric Chopin’s late masterpieces: the mysteriously ethereal Nocturnes, Op. 62; the visionary Polonaise-Fantaisie, Op. 61; the sophisticated Impromptu, Op. 29; and the brilliant Scherzo No. 4. The second half is dedicated to Franz Liszt. From the shimmering water features of the Villa d’Este to the existential depth of the Vallée d’Obermann, and on to the virtuosity of the Hungarian Rhapsody No. 6 and the concert paraphrase on Verdi’s »Rigoletto,« a panorama of 19th-century pianistic soundscapes unfolds. Massa’s sold-out Chopin galas at the Konzerthaus Berlin have become a fixture of the capital’s musical life. Now he brings this concert format to the Recital Hall of the Elbphilharmonie.
