We are screening the multi-award-winning feature film (including the Palme d’Or) by Ken Loach, the British master of working-class cinema: “I, Daniel Blake” (2016). The film will be shown in its original language with German subtitles.
We start at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, at the Lichtmess Cinema.
Distributor’s description: “Daniel Blake (Dave Johns) is a straightforward, average Englishman who pays his taxes and takes life as it comes. But one day, his health throws a wrench in his plans, and he finds himself dependent on government assistance. At the benefits office, he crosses paths with single mother Katie (Hayley Squires) and her two children. They band together as a community bound by shared fate and, despite the constant snubs from the authorities, also experience a great deal of solidarity—from former colleagues, from volunteers at the food bank, and even from Daniel’s eccentric neighbor. But the bureaucratic pitfalls of the so-called welfare state are treacherous. Powerlessness turns to anger—and Daniel and Katie aren’t about to give up on their dreams and hopes that easily…”
