Nina Porter: Sample Question Exhibition

Sample Question marks the first institutional solo presentation of Porter and comprises new works commissioned by the Kunstverein in Hamburg on the occasion of the 9th Triennial of Photography Hamburg: Alliance, Infinity, Love - in the Face of the Other, to be held in the downstairs gallery of the Kunstverein. Porter’s recent work reconstitutes the dynamic between camera, subject, and image, diffusing emphasis throughout their network. Alongside a series of photographic prints, the work has distinctly sculptural features, although it is orientated neither toward outcome nor process, but instead toward observations of evanescent phenomena – the gaps between seeing and perceiving, for instance. The material components of Porter’s practice behave like elements of an exchange that channel toward an intangible space, at once indexing time and accentuating the volume of a moment and all it has the potential to contain.
