Like the French composer Olivier Messiaen, the trumpeter, arranger and composer Tim Hagans experiences synesthesia, a sensory phenomenon that causes him to perceive auditory stimuli involuntarily as colours. Having placed synaesthesia at the heart of a programme he presented with the NDR Bigband two and a half years ago, Hagans is now translating further elements of his classical colleague’s compositional technique into his own musical language: »Dances from the Messiaen Moment«.
