John Coltrane is considered one of the most influential jazz musicians of all time. Together with the visionary trumpeter Miles Davis, the saxophonist shaped the sound of the 1950s and ’60s and played on groundbreaking recordings like »Milestones« and the multi-million seller »Kind of Blue«. His own album »Giant Steps« is also regarded as one of the most important jazz records of that era.

On the 100th birthday of these two musical giants, two of the greatest jazz musicians of our time pay tribute to the legacy of their ancestors. For the celebrated saxophonist Ravi Coltrane, this is literally true: as the son of John Coltrane and pianist and harpist Alice Coltrane, he has been following in his parents’ footsteps for decades. Like them, he combines the rich jazz tradition with an innovative attitude that leads him to ever new musical shores.

In addition to his band, Miles enthusiast Terence Blanchard will also be on stage. Blanchard, who began his career with the Jazz Messengers, has long enjoyed legendary status in the jazz scene as a trumpeter and composer. He was nominated for an Oscar for his film scores for »BlacKkKlansman« and »Da 5 Bloods« by director Spike Lee. Together, the musicians build a bridge between the music of the brilliant Coltrane-Davis duo and the jazz of our time.
