Mental Health in Music
- Jazz, Blues, Swing & Chanson
On the one hand, making music makes you happy; on the other, professional music makers very often fall into bouts of anxiety and depression, as studies prove. Franziska Lauter, as part of the Elbphilharmonie Jazz Academy, which brings together young professional musicians, highlights the reasons: is this linked to specific genes, particular personality traits or challenging working conditions? How can music makers take care of their mental health and effectively boost their resilience?
Franziska Lauter is a psychologist and expert in mental health with a focus on the music and creative industry. She works based on science and with a practical orientation at the intersections of art, health and working reality - one of her thematic priorities is studying creativity. With various band projects, she has celebrated musical successes herself – so, she knows the joys and challenges of the musician’s life from her own personal experience.
