For Augustin Hadelich, Mozart’s works are stories waiting to be told. »He was a composer who always thought dramatically, in narrative arcs; he wrote operas and much of his instrumental music is composed in exactly the same language,« explains the German-American violinist. In this concert, taking place one day before Mozart’s birthday, Hadelich and his fellow musicians celebrate the composer with three such instrumental stories: Mozart’s Violin Concertos Nos. 2 and 3 as well as his Symphony in A major.
The orchestral part is entrusted to the renowned Mahler Chamber Orchestra, for whom Mozart forms part of the ensemble’s musical DNA. The journey through Mozart’s soundscape begins with the lively Symphony in A major, whose elegance and wit immediately lift the spirits. Buoyant melodies pass effortlessly between strings and winds, rhythmic twists provide humour and surprise, and the finale unfolds like an exuberant celebration full of energy.
The two violin concertos each reveal a distinctive character: the Second enchants with its lyrical, dance-like melodies, while the Third sparkles with festive virtuosity, soaring leaps and rhythmic vitality. Few artists are better placed to bring this extraordinary variety to life than Augustin Hadelich, one of the defining violinists of his generation and an interpreter with a profound affinity for Mozart’s music.
