In this concert by Meggie Guerrini and Jannis Wichmann, the intimate and melancholic songs of John Dowland (1563–1626) are juxtaposed with Manuel de Falla’s (1876–1946) folkloric and richly colorful *Siete Canciones Populares*. Between Spanish passion and English melancholy, a vibrant dialogue unfolds across different eras and sound worlds. Solo works for guitar, including compositions by Iranian composer Golfam Khayam (*1983), provide further contrasts and open up new sonic perspectives.
Born in Brazil in 1987, singer Meggie Guerrini is distinguished by her stylistic versatility and subtle artistic expressiveness. After successfully completing her concert singing degree in 2018, she embarked on a career as a freelance artist and has since been involved in a wide range of musical projects. Alongside her concert work, she develops her own artistic concepts and brings them to life in performance, such as the song recital *Nächtliche Träume* (*Night Dreams*) in 2024.
Jannis Wichmann studied classical guitar at the University of the Arts Bremen (HiK Bremen) with Prof. Jens Wagner and subsequently received a scholarship from the Claussen-Simon Foundation as part of its stART.up program. The foundation also supported the production of his second studio album, *Field Recordings #Guitarworks*, which was presented at the Hamburg Guitar Days in 2021. Concert formats combining electronics, visuals, dance and field recordings, as well as his focus on works by women composers in both his artistic and research practice, demonstrate his broad, interdisciplinary approach.
