Rarely has a debut album from Berlin sounded so international, glamorous, and tear-jerkingly beautiful; Lie Ning surprised the music world in 2023 with "utopia," created in collaboration with Sam Smith’s producer Steve Fitzmaurice. In their mid-20s, the artist transitioned from careers in modeling, dance, and art direction to capture the hearts of dreamers and night-seeking romantics. Drawing inspiration from ’00s pop icons Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, along with Anohni's transgressive introspection, Lie Ning articulates the experience of being Black and queer in a predominantly white society. Their music blends R&B ballads with electro-pop anthems, shaping the follow-up mixtape, "sweatshop." Now based in London and moving closer to global stardom, Lie Ning sings in their latest single "Boys" about artistic freedom and excess, declaring, “I wanna be the centre of the fucking party.”
To follow up on this, the legendary experimental house DJ Eric D. Clark will be playing a set after the concert, continuing the night's energy.
