»The world’s most beautiful voyage« – this is the slogan Hurtigruten uses in its brochures and posters. For more than 100 years, the coastal express ships have reliably carried people and goods to the far north and back. Covering 2,500 nautical miles, the ships travel through Norway’s famous fjord landscape, which »National Geographic« has named one of the world’s most beautiful natural heritage areas.
Photographer, travel writer and author Kai-Uwe Küchler has explored the Hurtigruten myth on several journeys, in both summer and winter. He has returned with fascinating images, compelling stories and a wealth of information. In his new multimedia presentation, he enthusiastically shares impressions of his travels through the magical light of the north, the legendary tranquillity and the unique atmosphere on board a Hurtigruten ship. Longer excursions take him, beneath the midnight sun, to the North Cape and into the legendary island world of the Lofoten Islands. In winter, Küchler visits the Sámi Festival in Kautokeino and, travelling by dog sled, glides together with the audience through the snow-covered landscape north of the Arctic Circle …
With his new project »Hurtigruten«, Kai-Uwe Küchler once again demonstrates his mastery of combining outstanding photography, informative and intelligent texts, wonderful music and original recordings into an engaging and entertaining show. A soundtrack was specially composed for the presentation by the renowned Norwegian-Scottish duo »Kelpie«.
