Hardly any other instrument radiates as much warmth as the cello. To ensure that this remains the case for these instruments, some of which are centuries old, they need to be checked regularly. For many cellists, the first port of call for this is the »Geigenbau Schellong Osann« workshop on Kaiserkai.
Whether it’s fine tuning shortly before a concert or more complex repairs, Nikolaus Osann seeks the individual sound for each instrument. He also specialises in making exact copies of instruments by Guarneri del Gesù, the violin maker who, alongside Stradivari, is considered the most famous of his guild and whose instruments are now worth a fortune.
In »Insight Cello«, Osann invites us to his workshop near the Elbphilharmonie and provides fascinating insights into his work. He is joined by young cellist Petar Pejčić, who is touring Europe’s major concert halls this season as a Rising Star. The two discuss their different perspectives and illustrate how they work together to find the perfect sound for the concert. Of course, music is a must: Petar Pejčić plays a short sample from her »Rising Stars« programme.
The artist can be seen again on 21 January 2027 at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Elbphilharmonie as part of the »Rising Stars Festival«.
