HIMOYA Jazz, Blues, Swing & Chanson

Himoya create a distinctive blend of jazz sensibility, powerful rhythms and electronic soundscapes. Their music moves effortlessly between atmospheric synth textures, complex rhythmic structures and memorable melodies. At times fragile and poetic, at others driving and powerful, the Cologne-based quartet has won acclaim for »a new musical language and inventive arrangements« (Deutschlandfunk Kultur).

The band’s name, »Himoya«, means protection – an apt image for the sound they create: warm and enveloping, yet full of unexpected moments. The band is not afraid to address difficult subjects in its songs, from transience and the challenges of the climate crisis to the growing polarisation of our society. Drawing on jazz, they also incorporate influences from synth-pop, singer-songwriter music and experimental music.

The four musicians have been active in various line-ups for many years and have gained valuable experience in cities including New York and Paris. They have performed at numerous clubs and festivals, including Jazzahead Bremen, Jazz-Schmiede Düsseldorf and Bix Stuttgart. Himoya grew out of this shared musical journey – a band that creates a distinctive sound through depth, a spirit of experimentation and emotional directness.
