THE SHIP
THE LEGEND LIVES ON
Paraat en Start Klaar (PESK), (Ready for deployment and ready to start).
Since 1951, these words have been the guiding principle of the sea tug HOLLAND. This year, the ship celebrates its 75th anniversary. This makes the HOLLAND one of the oldest steel motor vessels still in operation in the world and a defining symbol of Dutch maritime history. Built as a fast salvage and sea tug, the HOLLAND played a significant role in the North Sea for decades. During its active service, it participated in more than 200 rescue operations. In 45 years of active service, the ship carried out 161 successful salvage operations, ensuring that all captured vessels reached their destination safely.
BUILT FOR STRENGTH AND VERSATILITY
Commissioned by the Doeksen shipping company, the HOLLAND was built in 1951 at the J. Smit & Zoon shipyard in Foxhol (Groningen). The ship was designed for multiple purposes: as a salvage vessel, a sea tug, and – when needed – as a passenger ship connecting to the island of Terschelling. For this reason, the HOLLAND was equipped with something exceptional for a salvage vessel: spacious and stylish salons. During its time as a passenger ship, it carried more than 800 passengers per crossing. The combination of a robust working vessel and a refined interior makes the HOLLAND a special and rare ship.
“80 TONS OF POWER, THE BEATING HEART OF THE HOLLAND”
THE BEATING HEART
The HOLLAND's power comes from its engine room. On board is a 10-cylinder Werkspoor diesel engine (TMABS3910) – the only operational engine of its type in the world. This slow-running engine is known for its reliability and enormous tractive effort and remains the ship's technical heart to this day.
HOLLAND TODAY
After her active service in the salvage operation, the HOLLAND was preserved as a floating cultural asset. The ship is fully operational and used for both business and private trips – from day trips to multi-day events. Seventy-five years after her commissioning, the HOLLAND is still a ship in motion: sailing, experiencing, and looking to the future. Ready to go.
Unique and unforgettable... for every occasion - the sea tug HOLLAND, built in 1951 in Groningen.
