Sailing parade, Hamburg Port Anniversary
HIGHLIGHT - Ride on a historic floating crane
Departure parade ... on Hamburg's historic floating crane.
Look forward to an extraordinary ride on the historic floating crane of the Oevelgönne Museum Harbour and the subsequent departure parade.
Due to the crane's slow speed, he arrives early at the landing stages to watch the exciting parade formation. Then it's a slow, leisurely, and relaxing return to the berth in the tranquil museum harbor.
The crane has a prime spot right on the waterline, offering a view of the entire passing parade of ships. After docking, the BBQ will take place at the berth. Drinks will be served from 12:30 pm. There is plenty of seating on board for chatting, watching, and eating.
PS Due to its slow speed, the floating crane cannot actively participate in the departure parade.
THE CRANE
Since its extensive restoration in 2012/13, the floating crane has been restored to its former glory. A relic of bygone days, it remains fully functional and is used for crane operations on other museum ships. This technical monument was built in 1928 and exemplifies the conventional general cargo handling methods employed in the Port of Hamburg in earlier years.
To be prepared for bad weather, a large tent roof is suspended from the crane boom. The seating is located under this roof.
