GROUPWORK - Alice’s Tabula Rasa (Joined, Bind + Completed)
- Exhibition
"Alice's Tabula Rasa (Joined, Bind + Completed)" draws upon 19th-century English and German perspectives. These include the author Lewis Carroll’s subversion of convention and the architects Karl Friedrich Schinkel, Gottfried Semper, and Karl Bötticher’s search for the etymology of all architecture, a pursuit that was arguably reinstated a century later by Henry van de Velde and Walter Gropius in their brief revival of material-speculative learning.
GROUPWORK contends that without returning to a forensic understanding of material properties, even the most pronounced architectural intentions risk becoming mere façades du jour – aesthetic gestures lacking ethical foundation. An installation will demonstrate how architectural archetypes can be reimagined to achieve carbon-negative outcomes, proposing a new paradigm of building to sequester and lock in atmospheric carbon.
