»The Gewandhaus Orchester goes straight to the heart«, wrote newspaper critics at the Hamburger Abendblatt last time ProArte hosted a concert by this world-class ensemble. This season, we can expect the same exceptional level of musical artistry as they perform works by Haydn, Mendelssohn and Brahms under the leadership of their Principal Conductor Andris Nelsons. Unrivalled in their luscious, warm sound and boasting a line-up of highly skilled solo wind players, they excel in all aspects of the much-loved standard orchestral repertoire. However, we do wonder what Nilson’s predecessor Mendelssohn would have thought of the choice of pianist to play his Piano Concerto No. 1 in G minor. It is pretty certain he would have approved. Seong-Jin Cho’s agile and sensitive touch is predestined for mastering the rapidly flowing passages of the last movement while his finesse and clarity are perfectly suited to Mendelssohn’s lucid musical language. Sit back and let the music speak to your heart!
