Since its opening in 2001, Miniatur Wunderland has delighted visitors from all over the world. Spanning over 1,500 square meters, the world's largest model railway has been created here – and it continues to grow. At a scale of 1:87, not only do trains, cars, and ships roar through meticulously detailed landscapes, but it also pulsates with life thanks to thousands of lovingly staged scenes and a realistic day-night simulation.
The workshops are also never idle: We're continuing to build our new South America section. After Patagonia and Rio de Janeiro, the Atacama Desert and a dense rainforest with almost 30,000 handcrafted trees will soon follow. We're being supported by our model-making friends, the Martinez family in Argentina – a truly passionate project that brings a southern hemisphere continent to Miniatur Wunderland for the first time.
The heart of Wonderland beats in the heart of Hamburg's Speicherstadt (Warehouse District). These historic warehouses, formerly a duty-free zone, now provide a vibrant cultural scene and connect past and future in a unique way.
As part of the Speicherstadt and a UNESCO World Heritage site, we cordially invite you to discover Miniatur Wunderland from a different perspective during the Long Night of World Heritage. In small groups of a maximum of seven people, our experienced guides will lead you on a roughly one-hour tour through selected areas of the complex.
You can expect not only exciting background stories, but also fascinating technical insights and charming anecdotes from over two decades of model building history. You'll start with the beginnings in Knuffingen and Central Germany, cross the control center, and experience Formula 1 in Monaco up close. The architecturally sophisticated bridge that connects to our new expansion area also plays a central role in the tour. The tour concludes with a look at the Atacama Desert and Rainforest sections currently under construction, as well as our special exhibition.
