In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the sister-city relationship between Shanghai and Hamburg, the “From Huangpu River to Elbe River” artist exchange program will take place in Hamburg in September 2025. This initiative unites artists from both cities to foster intercultural dialogue and celebrate their long-standing partnership.
The exhibition will feature works by six artists from Shanghai and Hamburg, including:
• Li Lei, a leading figure in Chinese abstract art
• Lu Lan, known for her East-West fusion style
• Jiang Hai Cang, famous for abstract figurative pieces
• Natalja Nouri, exploring the cosmic relationship of life and the universe
• Michael Knepper, blending realism with abstract symbolism
• Lionel Machris, specializing in fine art photography using 24-carat gold
The program will feature high-profile events, including:
• September 18: Works by six artists from Shanghai and Hamburg will be showcased at the National Day Reception celebrating the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, organized by the Consulate General of China in Hamburg.
• September 20: Opening of the Shanghai-Hamburg Art Exchange Exhibition at Pashmin Art Gallery, featuring collaborative works by the artists from both countries.
The public exhibition will run from September 22 to October 3, 2025, at Pashmin Art Gallery.
