Exhibition: Permission to Stop

What happens when our habitual urge to keep moving, optimizing and explaining recedes for a moment, allowing space for immediate perception?

The exhibition “Permission to Stop – Permission to Pause” invites visitors to consciously embrace a state that has become increasingly rare: a pause in which the pace of looking slows down and time opens up for one’s own perception.

The joint exhibition brings together the artistic positions of Heike Baltruweit and Johannes Hartmann. In different ways, both artists explore mirroring and reflection as forms of engaging with the present moment.

Heike Baltruweit presents completely unedited photographs created as one-shot images – without cropping, post-processing, staging or additional lighting. The composition is determined at the exact moment the photograph is taken and remains unchanged afterwards. Whatever becomes visible in that moment remains part of the image.

Johannes Hartmann carries this idea forward in his painting. His gestural abstract works move between meditative reduction and powerful, at times explosive movement. At the same time, they can appear weightless, open and light. Hartmann understands his painting as a seismographic translation of preconscious inner impulses, making tensions, transitions and moments of pause visible.

The popstreet.shop gallery presents Pop, Street and Urban Art by a range of artists. Through the interplay of these different works, the exhibition creates a counter-space to the acceleration of everyday life, inviting visitors to pause and once again give more time and attention to the act of seeing.

We very much look forward to welcoming you to the opening and throughout the exhibition.
