Dornenreich are coming to Hamburg with an acoustic set. And St Martin’s Church provides a venue that is more than just a stage: a 19th-century neo-Gothic brick building, with much of its original dark-wood interior and a palpable sense of history. For three decades, Dornenreich have been navigating between different poles – black metal, acoustic, folk, classical, and everything in between. Live, this is brought to life above all by their dynamism.
DORNENREICH’s sound draws on the mysterious intimacy of folk, the raw energy of rock and metal, and the intensity of classical music. Their constant evolution and search for fresh approaches make DORNENREICH an ever-evolving experience, as evidenced by their rich catalogue of albums. Combined with the distinctive language of the German lyrics and the emotional power of the performance, this creates a concert experience that transcends stylistic labels – because “no other band on this planet sounds like this” (Sonic Seducer/June 2021).
VINSTA will also be performing an acoustic set this evening. Normally operating somewhere between progressive death metal, alpine motifs and dialect, they’ll be deliberately toning this down here – with a focus on melodies, vocals and fine details.
The evening will be opened by the Junge Kantorei, a polyphonic women’s choir from Hamburg. Not a conventional support act, but a unique opening featuring different arrangements and a clear emphasis on the voices.
