Diversity on Stage – Sounds of Brazil
The band Pagode Improvisio and the wonderful singer Valentina Coutinho present traditional sambas, just as you’d hear at the ‘Roda de Samba’ gatherings in Rio de Janeiro.
Born in São Paulo, singer Valentina Coutinho has been living in Germany since 2015 and has many years of stage experience. With her warm, expressive voice, she interprets bossa nova, MPB and samba with feeling, ease and authenticity. Her music combines Brazilian joie de vivre with the intimacy and elegance of bossa nova, bringing a slice of Brazilian culture to the stage.
Brazilian joie de vivre, carried by sounds that simply make you want to dance. That’s why there’s also a free forró workshop at 7.30 pm, so that everyone can move together after the concert and take the positive vibes home with them afterwards. No previous experience of dancing or forró is required for the workshop. The idea is to create a fun and warm experience where everyone can get to know Brazilian culture through music, dance and connecting with others.
Musicians from Pagode Improvisio:
Mazinho de Souza (guitar and vocals)
Vitao Cardoso (pandeiro, percussion and vocals)
Ricardo “Caju” Medina (tan-tan, percussion and vocals)
With the project ‘Cultures of Our City – Diversity on Stage’, the Kultur Palast Foundation is presenting a twelve-part series of events in the Billstedt district. The aim is to introduce different communities, showcase their culture and create spaces for people to come together. The project showcases the individual communities in a stage show, provides information about their traditions and highlights their art, with a focus on building a future worth living in an urban area home to people from 130 nations. The project aims to promote social cohesion and raise awareness of cultural diversity. Visitors will enjoy a convivial time together and experience the individual communities in all their diversity within the neighbourhood, learn more about one another and get to know each other better.
