In the middle of the 18th century, Berlin audiences could not get enough of the concerts given by Frederick II’s court harpsichordist, so fascinated were they by CPE Bach, one of the first »original geniuses« in music history. The soloists must skilfully master the many facets of his sophisticated and, at the time, novel musical language: a challenge that the world-famous Albrecht Mayer masters with flying colours when he is accompanied by the magnificent musicians of the newly founded CPE Bach Orchestra Hamburg, which is committed to historically informed performance practice, in its debut concert.
