Ballad king Carl Loewe in Reinbek? We'd have to go back three decades, to when Germany's most famous bassist, Kurt Moll, sang his works in the castle. But now Cord Garben, longtime producer for the venerable Deutsche Grammophon label, is presenting a minor sensation from the Pomeranian composer's oeuvre: The pianist and accompanist was able to locate a contemporary copy of Loewe's Opus 90 in the National Library of Congress in Washington! A massive duo for violin and piano lasting almost 50 minutes, which Garben critically examined with the internationally acclaimed violinist Tanja Becker-Bender and recorded with the support of the Friends of Reinbek Castle – and is now presented here as a premiere, complete with a CD presentation.
