Letting yourself be completely swept away by the sound, enjoying the music as an almost physical experience – this is what the French ensemble La Tempête promises with its multimedia programme »Obsession«. Voices, instruments, lighting, dance and a mysterious stage design merge with the hypnotic music of Arvo Pärt, Philip Glass and others to create a total work of art.
With La Tempête (»The Storm«), the name says it all: from Renaissance and Baroque music to minimal music, the ensemble sweeps through a wide range of works. »Obsession« focuses entirely on the circle, on cyclical forms and repetitions. Two emblematic works by Arvo Pärt frame excerpts from Philip Glass’s »1000 Airplanes on the Roof«, a science-fiction music theatre piece about the sighting of extraterrestrial life.
The programme concludes with dances by the French composer Jehan Alain, who died at a young age and whose music was audibly inspired by the jazz clubs of 1920s Paris.
