Almost every day, a new wave of news breaks over us, with something constantly demanding our attention and response. At times, it can seem as though the human-made world is spinning faster and faster, threatening to come apart at the seams. For many, nature offers a refuge – a place of calm and clarity. And today, more than ever, it is a place worth protecting.
Richard Strauss’ »Alpine Symphony« makes audible the extraordinary beauty of a landscape that we are in the process of destroying. Through movements such as »Fridays for Future«, school pupils and students are taking to the streets to draw attention to pressing issues. Perhaps Strauss’ vividly evocative composition offers its own reasons to get involved, to stand up for what matters and to recognise that change is an essential part of life.
