On Sunday, June 14, 2026, the very first parade dedicated to dance and all the people who live in Hamburg will take place in Barmbek-Nord. The City Parade temporarily transforms public urban space into a stage, breaks with traditional performance logics, and explores new forms of encounter between artists and the public. Through artistic interventions and the active, intergenerational participation of the general public, the City Parade puts Brave Moves. Courageous Joy. into action!
The City Parade puts the spotlight on the diversity of dance cultures and communities living in Hamburg: from commissioned works by local choreographers to community dances, dance schools, associations or initiatives such as Die Antwort, the Contemporary Dance School Hamburg, the Erika Klütz School, the Lola Rogge School, the Step by Step initiative and many more.
The City Parade finale will be choreographed by Hamburg-based choreographer Patricia Carolin Mai. Together with her company MAI:COMPANY, she will develop a participatory choreography in the city park.
The City Parade also marks a special moment between two triennials in Hamburg – on the last day of the 9th Triennial of Photography, it simultaneously opens the Dance Triennial. For this reason, the parade begins at the Museum of Work, a partner in the Triennial of Photography program, and proceeds from there to the Stadtpark for the finale.
An open call for participation in the City Parade will be published shortly. If you would like to receive the announcement in time, please subscribe to our newsletter!
