In his book »Formation – Building a Personal Canon, Part I«, Brad Mehldau paints a vivid picture of the jazz scene in New York in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The exceptional pianist brilliantly brings to life the atmosphere of the clubs, the creative scene in Manhattan and Brooklyn, and his early experiences on tour.
Please note: Both the reading and the discussion will be held in English.
As part of his Reflektor series, Brad Mehldau will read from his autobiography, which outlines the first 26 years of his life. In conversation with Tom R. Schulz, he will also provide deeper insights into his career. Mehldau writes about founding the quartet »Mood Swing« with Joshua Redman and how his acclaimed recording series »Art of the Trio« with bassist Larry Grenadier and drummer Jorge Rossy came about. The celebrated pianist also describes the later life of the trio with Jeff Ballard replacing Rossy, Brad’s solo projects and his forays into other genres.
Brad Mehldau can be experienced in all his facets at his Reflektor Festival: as a soloist, in a duo, with a big band or orchestra, as a gifted performer, composer and improviser.
