»It is one of the most immeasurable treasures of the human spirit,« says early music luminary Jordi Savall of Ludwig van Beethoven’s »Missa solemnis«. With his ensembles and an outstanding line-up of singers, he brings this monumental work to life at the Elbphilharmonie.
»From the heart – may it go again to the heart«, Beethoven wrote at the beginning of the score of his »Missa solemnis«, considering it »the greatest of his creations«. In this deeply personal project, the composer poured all his artistry and demands the utmost technical and physical commitment from the performers.
The effort was well worth it: in this music, Beethoven reveals his innermost feelings and engages profoundly with his own faith. Yet Savall sees this music as belonging to everyone: »What has always fascinated me about Beethoven is that his music speaks to every individual, regardless of their origins, their social standing or their beliefs.«
