One can sense from the very first note just how closely connected they are, both artistically and personally. To conclude his Hamburg residency, the renowned violinist Augustin Hadelich welcomes two cherished musical partners to the stage of the Laeiszhalle: cellist Marie-Elisabeth Hecker and pianist Martin Helmchen. A couple in life as well as in music, they join Hadelich in a trio whose members have known one another for years, sharing a rare degree of trust and intuitive musical understanding. In changing formations, they celebrate chamber music for what it is at its core: conversation, adventure and a living exchange of ideas.
The programme spans three very different musical landscapes. In Beethoven’s Sonata for Cello and Piano in A major, piano and cello meet on equal terms – at times vigorous and full of energy, at others lyrical and deeply intimate, always charged with the inner tension that makes Beethoven’s music so unmistakable. Zoltán Kodály’s Duo for Violin and Cello brings two string instruments into an electrifying and often highly virtuosic dialogue, where echoes of folk music meet expressive modernism.
The programme concludes with Robert Schumann’s Piano Trio in D minor, a work of passionate drama, lyrical intimacy and intricate chamber-musical interplay – music that depends on the precision and mutual trust of a truly established ensemble.
